Dark Light

Edwin has been wondering if our blog website has died. I think it was sick with COVID. But now it’s back!

Well actually, I’ve been working on several projects… or rather one or two projects that involved a lot of components.

I started learning the bass and with the Beans made our first multicam music video of Lost in the Woods. When Everett was little and the kids were into Frozen, whenever this song came on, he would stop and listen intently. Because it is a piano song primarily, I learnt it and ended up playing it so much that Everett denied ever liking the song at all.

We did get to do a recording and put together a fun project. Sierra was too little and didn’t make the final cut.

One day in the summer, maybe it was a weekend, I don’t remember for sure, the kids and I just had a great day. There wasn’t anything spectacular, just a plain day that went very well. We probably went for a walk in the morning, maybe had a good lunch and went for a swim and bike ride. It made me think of the song Perfect Day by Lou Reed. I ended up learning the music to that song and wanted to do another music video. I put it to bass, but the track was too bare, so I ended up learning the rest of the parts – drums, strings. I played the song enough times as well so that the kids learned the words and I recorded all of the instrument and vocal tracks.

We had just gone down to Vancouver and visited Dan. I had bought a music interface to my computer for recording and Dan suggesting learning Ableton. This ended up being another rabbit hole that I fell into learning this music program. When this was finished, making the multicam video inspired by Pentatonix Blinding Lights took another huge chunk of time, but in the end, it was a lot of fun and worth the work!
