Travel this year was mostly canceled because of the pandemic which had some pros. I think we spent more quality time together as a family at home and around the neighbourhood. I have to say, especially as we are both lucky to have stable jobs despite shutdowns, I had a pretty good year. A large budget item for us is travel, and it goes to show us that we can still enjoy ourselves without flying anywhere.
We took the last week of summer driving out to BC. I had enrolled Everett in a learn to sail “Wet Feet” course at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. Although the course was cancelled on the first day, it wasn’t an entire bust as we got to visit Kamloops (seeing Vanbric), spend time visiting the sites in Vancouver (and hooking up with Dan and Darcy), and hopping over the strait to Victoria (catching up with Jesse, and seeing Jason & Nicole).
The drive with the kids was surprisingly pleasant, and we didn’t even have to melt brains with the iPad. We listened to several really good audiobooks there and back. We borrowed a bike carrier for the car and got to adventure on two wheels, revisiting old pre-Beans haunts, and seeing sights again for the first time. We had a nice apartment that we rented and the whole trip was laid back and fun.
This summer trip made me think of nostalgic memories, and even as I write and edit the videos this fall in November, already it seems like this trip happened long ago at a different time. There seemed to be so much going on this year, but when it boils down to the individual and our family, really not very much had changed between us.
