Me and my little Bean having some breakfast at the rural medicine conference in Banff.
Unlike all other conferences that I’ve been to (ACP, ASN), I understand that many family medicine / rural medicine conferences are much about lifestyle and family, and if I can say, “soft” topics like how to teach better, being a mentor, and clinical reasoning.
There was a morning of 3-4 talks followed by the afternoon off. Many people went skiing, as it was a record snowfall for the Lake Louise area, I think about 40cm of snow! We went swimming a couple of times at the fitness center where Everett first voluntarily put his face in the water to grab a toy squid. We also went downtown for some food. In the evenings, programs were set up and it was pretty much expected that little children would come, so there were whole ballrooms set up with coloring and toys. For the gala dinner, a separate kids section was set up where they had babysitters hired to watch the children and activities like face painting and the most impressive balloon animals I had ever seen!
