Our winter stay in Florida coincided with Mardi Gras, so we made the drive up to New Orleans to see what all the fuss was about. The carnival did not disappoint! I would say that I’m not really a parade person – while the local ones I’ve experienced in Red Deer growing up brings back good memories, recently they haven’t been anything to write home about. Notably, the 4th of July parade in Washington DC was boring (mainly schools, no floats), and the junkanoo parades we’ve seen in the Caribbean were also overhyped.
Now New Orleans Mardi Gras, this is a different beast. The atmosphere was electric as everyone was there to have a good time. The hotel we were at had live bands come through and fully decorated. And the parades were at another level. They were so much fun that every day we were there, we spent pretty much from morning to late night watching the parades!
