Dark Light

Sierra has always been very strong willed. She is good at being independent and doing her own thing. Even as a baby, she would flip through picture books by herself, and now as a five-year old, she would go about creating her own art and finding materials to do her own makeup and nails.

We’ve enrolled the kids in various activities over the school year and especially in the summer. With these organized camps and sports, Sierra is invariably reluctant to take part at the very beginning. She didn’t want to go to soccer camp several years ago. She cried with sailing camp, and didn’t want to do swimming lessons. And now, she wanted to stay home rather than go to Disney camp.

But after the first day at the activity, she always enjoys it (except one swimming teacher she didn’t like).

This summer we did a lot of fun things. It’s our last summer before sailing the ocean blue, so we stayed local the entire time. The kids continued to spend most of their days playing with their friends the Prevosts and Habas. If the dog days of summer still exist in any fashion (for the kids if not the adults), then these are the ones they spend with the neighbours.

Everett has managed to acquire a handful of girls who crush on him. While the girls are enamoured, he goes about his usual play and just wants to hang out with Eli and Harrison. Shannon and I think the more a girl likes him, the less he is interested.

I think Amber wanted Maebyn and Everett to hang out, but due to neighbourhood proximity and school, Jaynie really liked Everett, thought about him a lot, remembered and made him a nice birthday card. Isla is the one who probably crushes on him the most. She says the funniest things, as reported by her mom Jenn. Apparently, Everett is Isla’s good friend, and it’s “different” now, different how is not elaborated. The kids made Isla a birthday video. Isla said, “I be he misses me.” But we knew that for a couple of years now, as Everett is nice to everyone, and it sounds like of the three neighbourhood boys the only one who plays with Isla and is nice to her.
