For me, 80% of the effort is making the decision to get on the bike to get to work. After I get started, the actual physical exertion and exercise is really no effort at all and very enjoyable.
I don’t like driving at all. A car is the one thing that at the same time costs you money and makes you more unhealthy at the same time. Couple that with traffic congestion, red lights, slow drivers, and those who don’t pay attention, I try to bike whenever I can.
I feel lucky living in a place where I have the option to get most places on a bike. My commute to work is great – mostly bike paths, some forested, and a difference of only a few minutes compared to if I were to drive. It is mostly downhill going to work and my favorite part is right when I enter the forested trails after Bower Place Mall. In the mornings the air is crisp and fresh, the light hits the trees a certain way sometimes reflecting off dew. There aren’t too many people out, but those who are taking early walks are in good moods.
