For Christmas, Everett got a copy of the book Home Alone from his cousins in Calgary.
Somewhat surprisingly to me, both kids love reading this book, and we have been reading it every night ever since they’ve gotten it, going on the third week since Christmas now.
Because they were interested, I thought it might be a good idea to watch the Home Alone original movie on TV as a treat. We rented the show from Google Play and this is what it looks like:
We pointed out the characters, and how it resembled the book. I think definitely Everett followed along, but it turns out the slapstick comedy was far too scary for the Beans. Sierra in particular was not impressed with the violence, and in some scenes, Everett covered his eyes!
While this is not The Walking Dead, which definitely freaked Everett out when he was a one-year-old, I guess they will have to be a little bit older to enjoy the movie. In the meantime, we will continue reading the book.
Kids of this age relate very well to this story …. being home alone without their family is a very very scary thought. This movie and book further exaggerates it. Kids would have this scary feelings for probably quite a few years They probably have repeated nightmare on this.
Would refrain from repeatedly expose them to it.
