This is what, Everett’s third swimming lesson? While he technically passed Sea Otter last time around (Shannon thought that the instructor didn’t want to fail him), we thought that it would probably benefit from doing the lesson again. There is actually a big jump between Sea Otter and the next lesson which is Salamander. Looking at the kids in the Salamander group, they all look at least a year older, and a lot more comfortable in the water.
This week in July, he has five consecutive days of lessons. I have the week off so I get to join in and see how our Little Big Bean is doing the water nowadays.
Sierra is at day home a couple of times this week, so we drop her off first. Poor Sierra. She wants to go swimming to and was disappointed that she cannot join in on the first day of classes. On the second day, she tells us that she wants to go swimming as well, and not to day home with Teacher Yvonne.
On the third day of swimming lessons, today, every decided that he liked swimming lessons. He was very excited to go and was ready to be on his way even before he finished breakfast. He told his teacher Natasha that he liked swimming. Not only that, but today he was the only student who showed up, possibly because there was a parade going on well, and essentially got a private lesson.
Everett did a great job, and it was exciting to see the progress that he has made. He is getting more confident in the water, and certainly he is getting the hang of blowing bubbles and breathing in and out of water. He is trying to get his coronation between his arms and legs right now. His other big step is completely some merging his head underwater to grab the weighted toys from the bottom of the pool. Such a good job!
