May 3, 2018 Everett went to his first half day of Preschool. I signed him up for Thursday afternoons during the month of May at the Kerry Wood Nature Center. It’s called Forest Friends for 3yr olds. It’s from 12:30-3pm and they spend most of their time outside around the nature centre filling bird feeders and then waiting for the birds to come, looking for ant hills, ducks, geese and any other animals/insects around, climbing trees and playing at the playground. Everett was excited about going to preschool but not thrilled that Mom was not tagging along! I had to sit in the car for the majority of the time and when I did leave for the last 45min to get a few things done I came back to a tear stained face and a little boy who told me he was sad that he couldn’t see the car! Everett told me he missed me and he didn’t want me to go when I picked him up. My little boy is still little and needs his Mommy. I guess I should savor these moments as soon enough he won’t need me like that anymore.
On the way to the class, in the car Everett was telling me about a couple of the kids from day home and how they don’t share very well. “Hayden doesn’t share with me” he says and then I tell him that Hayden is just learning how to share since she is only 2. He then proceeds to tell me that he is just learning not to rip things out of peoples hands. We had an incident last night where Everett ripped a book out of Mah Mah’s hands, walked away with it and then wouldn’t apologize to her. There were lots of tears and crying and resulted in early to bed for Everett. When in bed we discussed how that can make people feel sad and we don’t want to make anyone feel sad because that’s not nice. Everett seemed to understand this because I think he was feeling badly about not apologizing. I guess he decided it was ok in the end because he is still ‘just learning’. A very smart little Bean trying to justify his bad behavior.
Here is the after picture:
Afterwards we stayed and played at the park despite my offer to go and get ice cream! He went up and down the slide about 30x!
I think we’ll go back again next week.
