Everett finished his first week of swimming lessons and did a great job. He passed the Sea Turtle level and will have to wait until he is three years old before he can do the next one, which is unaccompanied by the parent.
Mom says Everett was very interested all the time and is often one of the first to go grab the toys, or participate in the activities. He hummed Twinkle Twinkle in the water which worked like a charm to get him to blow bubbles in the water. Prior to this, we’ve had just some tentative success at getting him to do this. Listening to his teacher Megan and having other kids around participate, he felt more comfortable getting splashed and water all over his face. He’s still not the most confident on his back, but doing pretty well on his from. With either floaties or a life jacket, he’ll go into doggy paddle mode and get around.
Here we are practicing splashing water on our heads and jumping in!
Shortly after finishing the lessons, Everett surprised us with voluntarily putting his face in the water. Funny, he loves wearing his googles. He didn’t hesitate to look at a towel or his toys under the water in the bathtub.
And later we went to the Mitchener and Collicutt pools for some swimming again. Everett gets fully dunked going down the slide. At the Collicutt hot tub, he wanted to practice jumping into the water and kept telling me to go further and further away from him. At one point I was all the way on the other side before he would jump in, get completely submerged before I got him.
Here’s bedtime. I think the goggles remind him of Spy Chase.
