Edwin said something about Everett eating “youghie” one morning, and Everett retorted “Yogurt!” I am using Sierra’s nickname “See-wah” which was how Everett used to pronounce her name and he would occasionally slowly enunciate “See-air-rah.” And if I mis-speak or mix up one of the Paw Patrols, he’ll tell you, like the time someone said Everett’s Chase flotation vest was Skye, he stopped in his tracks and exclaimed, “Chase!”
I’ve noticed this month spending all our time with Everett that he is gaining more and more vocabulary and putting more advanced sentences together all the time. We were at Kilohana Plantation this morning for a train ride. One of the ladies at the gift shop was looking at Sierra and Everett told her, “This is my baby sister!” She asked what her name was and Everett spoke clear enough for her to understand Sierra. And then she asked how old Everett was and he shows her his fingers – the index finger comes up, and then the middle finger pops up after. (If he is trying to do three, he sometimes needs his other hand to help get the ring finger up).
Everett also finds it necessary to tell Edwin stuff. “Sook sook,” he says, “The mountains is where Everest lives!” He tells Edwin this when we are driving and Kauai’s mountains are in the distance.
Every time there is the sounds of a motor, he would stop and look in the sky for a helicopter, whether it is actually an aircraft, or something else like a lawn mower.
The other thing he is doing is anticipating questions. Just yesterday, I asked him why his fingies were in the mouth. “My not tired!” he says, but clearly, he was tired, but didn’t want to be put to bed.
