Dark Light

I heard that rain was not unusual in Kauai. It was overcast most of today, but we did make it out to the pool twice again – once after breakfast, and again after nap time.

We hunted all around eastern Kauai for this lifejacket that we’ve seen around for Everett that had floats around the torso as well as arms. There were many girl versions of this at K-mart, but nowhere else. No luck at Costco, Walmart, nor ABC store. We settled for some inflatable waterwings that Everett warmed up a little to. With a lot of convincing, we did manage to go down the water slides a couple of times, and I think he even got used to the cool pool. Usually, he’d tell us that he wanted to go in the warm pool after collecting all of his toy trucks.

We went around the river part of the pool – a really beautifully landscaped pool by the way – and even explored an interesting area behind a waterfall. We looked at a lizard, pointed out several helicopters, and birdies.

Sierra’s first two teeth came out today, and not only that, but she pretty much started rolling back to front a couple of times today. She has big eyes and is in the “looking looking” phase. She isn’t as interested in fans as Everett was, but I can tell the oral phase is coming up soon.

After dinner, I took Everett out for some shaved ice in Kapaa. It was a sweet sugary treat that we probably didn’t need. We made a short walk around the block looking at some shops, roosters and an oceanside walk. Everett held my hand and skipped along happy to be out walking on the grass beside the sidewalk and searching for roosters.

At bed time, Everett had a tough time going down tonight needing us to go in several times to settle him down. He wanted to “see the floor” for some reason, and one time was crying because he wanted his blanket covering his body (and he couldn’t get it on straight himself). His hair was all sweaty, so I changed him to a t-shirt and adjusted his blanket.

I laid down beside him and basically recited Goodnight Moon to him, along with saying goodnight to pretty much everything we saw and did today. I told him I was tired and needed sleep. I go to get up and he puts his hand on my face telling me to put my head down on the pillow beside him, and “close your eyes.” Oh Beanie. It’s tough to say no to that.
