This was Sierra’s first flight, and Everett’s first flight where he semi kind of knew what was going on, insofar as he was going on and airplane up into the air. Sierra was pretty much the same as she usually is – crying unless she was held by someone standing. She slept on and off and feed. Everett had a rougher time however.
We arrived in Calgary at around 12pm, and of course, Everett pretty much refused to sleep the entire way until ten minutes before we arrived in Calgary, and then he was up again. The airport was pretty cool. He was running around until he saw this big red horse sculpture and stopped dead in his tracks pointing it out, “Neigh!”
Security at both Calgary and Vancouver (yes, we had to do it twice) was surprisingly smooth. We just had way too much stuff compared to if it were just the two of us, and we managed not to use the iPad for this leg.
I think Everett was disappointed in the airplane ride. He was strapped down to his seat, the windows were tiny, so he didn’t really get to see much. So basically the airplane ride was just sitting down for about an hour an a half. At our connection, he told me he didn’t want to go on the next airplane, and wanted to go home.
Going home probably wasn’t the worst idea, since our Vancouver to Lihue flight was about 7 hours long, 45 minutes longer than expected because of head winds. It was brutal with Everett. Of course, just before we boarded the plane, he falls asleep and managed 15 minutes before woken up again.
Then it wasn’t long before we ate all of the snacks that he liked, and watched some 5 hours of Paw Patrols along with iPad for about hour of doing other kids apps we downloaded. About half an hour before we were due to land, Everett of course is so tired and his brain completely mush that he falls asleep.
Then the cabin lights come on and everyone gets up. Everett screams waking up, sucking his fingies furiously. I go off to get our rental car while Shannon waits with the kids for our luggage. Everett melts down and screams for the 30 minutes of so until I pick them up. Because Sierra doesn’t stop crying on the 20 minute drive to our vacation rental, Everett cries too because he’s just so tired.
That’s what happens, Everett, when you don’t sleep when you can. You try to sleep when you can’t and you just go crazy! Just close your eyes next time!
It was amazing. Of course, being our flight day, Everett actually got up at 6am. He did not go to bed at the condo until about 12am (3am Red Deer time). He pretty much got less then an hour of sleep broken up into three periods in between. On the plane he kept going and going and going. It’s like Shannon said, if you miss your window, then they don’t sleep. And following that logic, Everett would be up forever.
Despite setting Everett’s Gro-clock for 10:30am Hawaii time, Everett was up at 6:30am (9:30am Red Deer time), getting only 6 hours of sleep. Fortunately, our vacation was starting to look a little better:
