I got to spend a lot of time with Everett these last couple of weeks. I took about two weeks of paternity leave, and spent one extra week working only a part of the time. This has been great! I need to take more time off. This is the funnest time with the little guy by far I think. Everett is starting to be able to communicate with words. He has cute little things that he says and we’re continually amazed at the things he knows. Like for example today, I said where is the “fai-zi” and he points to the chopsticks and says “chopsticks!” Such a smart bean. He a good explorer in the forest, and likes new things. Like opening the trees (eg. making a path through the forest), and thought it was the greatest when I put on my rollerblades and pushed him around his bike. He’s a good boy (except when he wants a snack) and very fun to play with. Today we went swimming and he’s going all around the Collicut splashing, sitting on the floaties and going down the slides. We ran in to Amber and Maebyn there.
He’s still not great a brushing his teeth, but often he wants to do it himself, or old on to Elmo, the toothpaste.
I think he’s adjusting to Sierra ok, but that might be because he’s getting tons of attention. Not only am I spending most of the time with him, because Sierra is so high maintenance with mom, but Doug and Julie got to come up to visit as well. We’ll have to see what happens tomorrow, when I go back to work full time.
Sometimes he is still a mommy suck though. In the mornings, I have to be on it to distract him so that he doesn’t go in and wake up mom and Sierra. Despite best efforts he occasionally breaks through into the master bedroom.
Everett’s most recent favorite book has been Pinocchio. Except that he decided on pronouncing Pinocchio “mock-a-u.” He just made that up. That doesn’t sound anything like Pinocchio!
At night before bed, he absolutely has to snuggle with mommy last. When he gets up, he cries out for momma, even if I am the one to get him.
It’s not easy being a little Bean.
